What do you wish someone had told you on diagnosis day?

0

The day a family hears the word "dementia" is usually the day they know the least and fear the most. I've sat in many of those conversations, and the questions are always the same: How fast? How bad? What now?

Here's what I wish every family heard on day one: dementia is not only memory loss. It changes how a person processes the world — sounds, light, time, faces. Many of the "difficult behaviors" families struggle with later are not stubbornness; they are a person responding sensibly to a world that stopped making sense.

If you've been through diagnosis day: what do you wish someone had told you then? Your answer might reach a family who had that conversation this week.
